Last week I took one completely apart and found nothing wrong. The dryer was exceptionally clean. I even checked the timer leg to the element. Fine. Nothing wrong from any component. I decided to remove the cover plate off the power terminal to see if the pigtail was wired correct. The heat side was fried. Probably due to a loose connection. My first dryer pigtail install way back in the 70s I overtightened a terminal screw to the point of being stripped. After one load the connection crashed and burned.  :tickedoff:

I opened it up last night and vacuumed it all out and check all the wire connect nothing was loose or showed signs of rubbing. I didn't notice anything that might have looked burnt either. The breaker looks old im going to change it out.ill throw the meter on in swell. Thanks for the tips guys.

Had one do this a short while back. Terminal blockl wash fine. Pulled the 240 plug out of the recepticle and there it was, a hot spot on l2 prong. Had the owner to call for electrical repair to replace the bad recepticle. Could have been just a loose connection inside the recepticle arcing and shorting.
