Maytag Drier - Wont Start/replaced dryer belt
« on: August 10, 2011, 05:10:12 PM »

Dryer Belt busted on Maytag Dependable Care Plus dryer, model LDG5914AAE.  Replaced busted dryer belt. Now it wont start. No lights, like there is no power to it.  My nephew was the last one that used it... said he had to dry his clothes 3 times for them to dry - not heating up I imagine. I checked the connections, made sure they are in the right place (marked it); no power! What do I do? Help!!  It looked so easy youtube!!  :-\

Make sure the wires going to the door switch did not end up rubbing on the drum wearing a spot through the wire shorting it out.

I have see it happen a number of times on this type of maytag dryer were people had them apart to do repairs and did not get the wires going to the door switch back in place along the frame were they should be.

Unplug the dryer and run your hand along both wires going to the door switch, sometimes it's just a small spot rubbed through the wire and sometimes the wire is broken in half....

Number 10 mounted on the blower housing next to the control thermostat if open the dryer will be dead. I would be willing to bet you the blower wheel (number 4) is wallowed out and in need of replacement. Seen it. Click on pix to enlarge.

I checked the wiring on the door panel, looks fine. Still no power.  I have attached two images, one of the wiring on door panel and the other under the dryer.  According to my nephew he had to dry his clothes 3 times before they dry. I am guessing there was not Hot air blowing thru... and the belt busted also.  Where is Number 4?? How much do you think the part cost? Is it easy to replace?  I really appreciate your help.

If you remove the front of the dryer you will see them.

You can also find them on the Motor Drive Page of the diagram.

I originally started off replacing the dryer belt cuz it had busted.  I volunteered to work on my Mother's dryer - looked easy on youtube. After replacing the dryer belt it wouldnt power on. But, my nephew mentioned that he had to dry his clothes 3 times right before the belt busted. Is there any way to test if the thermo fuse if the problem??

Take the two wires off the thermal fuse (may need needle nose pliers) and ohm test it...if it OL (open) it's bad...it is a one time fuse.

Also if the fuse is blown make sure you clean out the dryer and venting because there may be a blockage causing excessive heat.  This is something you should do anyway's...I tell my customers every six months, but atleast once a year.

I just ordered the thermal fuse from AppliancePartsPro... called Sears, said they had to order it. So, I rather order it myself. How can I check the Blower wheel to see if it also needs replacing?

Let me get this straight now: The motor should also turn with the blower. The blower must be firmly clamped to the motor shaft and the motor turns with the blower. The blower does not free float on the motor shaft. Is that you?

The shaft on the motor is 'D' shaped so there is a flat side on the shaft. The plastic blower wheel center hole is also 'D' shaped.

What happens when the blower wheel goes bad is the 'D' shape of the center hole gets round out.

Think i understand about the blower wheel... thought It was suppose to spin freely.  Will check it again. Guess if it spins freely then its worn out.  Hmmm...
