GE Built-In Ovens Burns the Bottom of the Cookies

Have you run into this problem?

Here's an interesting failure that we have been seeing more frequently. No doubt it will show up more and more as these ovens age.

The Symptom:
Suddenly the oven doesn't bake like it used to. The cookies get burned on the bottom and not cooked on the top. But at first glance everything seems to work. The Bake element heats in Bake mode. The Broil element heats in Broil mode.

You're NOT Crazy
Its a failure in the electronic control board. This failure prevents the normal cycling of the Bake and Broil elements during Bake mode. Normally the Broil element is switched on about 25% of the time during baking to provide some direct heat from the top and cook the top of those cookies!

The Good News:
We've discovered a hidden error code on the GE built-ins that quickly reveals this problem:
  • Shut off the power to the oven for about a minute or so.
  • Power on the oven and check the reading on its clock (after about 10 seconds).
  • If it reads "12:0 " (yes, forth digit is blank), then the oven has this failure - everything else may work normally.

We can take care of this problem with our board rebuild service.
