This was helpful, but I have a tidbit to add. I was having the same problem. Maytag Performa PAV5000AWW
. Clothes sopping wet. Then I noticed it agitated but did not spin. I finally tried replacing the thrust bearing kit, which went ok, but I also had a hard time getting that last, thin washer on before the final E-clip. The adjustment indicator was just below "minimum". I followed the advice here and got the washer on, but it made it WORSE--way below minimum. So I tried the old, worn cam (I think--the white plastic piece that goes into the pulley right before the last washer and e clip). I did not place any washer, and now the indicator is between min. and max. and lo and behold, it works! Hallelujah. I am a little worried about not having a washer, but hey, it works.
