whirlpool hot water heater

this unit is a year old . an electrician told that a surge made the hot water bust pipe because it arced and said that the unit need to be replaced is this true because they are still gettin hot water to the shower etc. or does the pipe just need to be replaced i havent diagnosed this yet just wanted some input

You might need to replace the safety valve, but not the whole thing.
