Kenmore 80 series issues after installing coupler
« on: October 07, 2009, 06:48:46 PM »

My machine worked fine, then broke the coupler. I took the machine apart, replaced the coupler, and upon putting it back together had a really bad rubber burning smell. Suspecting that the coupler was not fit flush on the shaft, I took the machine back apart and made the coupler flush by knocking it on with a nut driver as suggested here.

I put the machine back together and it will fill, then nothing until it goes all the way to the spin cyle where it will spin out. It never agitates, or even attempt to try and agitate. I have taken it back apart and checked all connections, the lid switch is good, nothing outwardly obvious as to why it suddenly will not agitate, when it worked fine just moments before.

What do I need to check?

Thanks

While fiddling with the machine you may have made the timer connection get a little bit loose or you might have pinched the plastic tube from the tub up to the  water level switch so check all that.

Hi punkncat,

Could you post the model number for us? The model number can be found on the model/serial number tag that is located on the washer.

Check picture below for possible model number tag locations.

I can remove the pump and turn the motor shaft farily easily. The machine will drain and spin fine. What would be binding up that would allow those functions, but cause it not to agitate?

I note that upon watching it a bit closer that it only spins for the drain out cycle after the wash and rinse cycle, it will not do the "final" spin either.

Ok, so the motor is supposed to go the opposite way when it is agitating. Why would it not run that direction? It doesn't hum or anything, nothing is bound, but will not run that direction at all.

Ah grasshopper, we is down to the old appliance man problema, motor or the timer syndrome. You gave it away though. The first spin is fine the 2nd ain't? That is a timer malfunction. Remove that timer and take the cheapass pwastic liner off there and look at the barrel with humps in it for burnt marks. Some of them timer knobs screw off others have a pin in the rear end of the timer that must be backed out a tad to release the knob. Let me know. If it is the timer with the solid plastic body then that crappy hunk of lousy mexitronics  :bonk:  is my usual suspect.  :2funny:
