Maytag Neptune Gas Dryer - won't stay lit
« on: April 29, 2009, 11:20:21 PM »

My gas dryer ignition will glow and the gas will light for several seconds then go out. Venting is not the problem.

How can I tell if it's the valve coils or the radiant sensor?

Model MDG5500aww

The gas is cycled by the thermostats. There is a hi-limit mounted on top of the burner chamber, part # 33002567

An operating thermister on the blower duct which can also be an issue, part # 307208

Your gas coils are not the problem unless the burner won't ignite, part # 279834

Neither is the flame sensor, part # 338906

A technician usually clips his meter leads onto the hi-limit and monitors its operation during the burner cycles to rule it out (or in). If the hi-limit is not opening up, you can further assume the temperature thermister on the blower duct or the actual main control board up top may be at fault, part # 33003028

how do you know its not the venting? try running it w/ the vent off the back and see how it does. also its normal for the dryer to ignite for a while and the shut off once it reaches operating temp.
