AC capacitor question
« on: June 26, 2017, 06:18:51 PM »

I have a Comfort MODEL NAC036AKC3 AC. I would like to get a spare capacitor. My problem is it was replaced about a year ago, and the old one that was taken out has this on it.
97F9970
50uf  5uf  370VAC
+06 - 06%   50/60Hz
Protected  P968
S10000AFC    DIELEKTROL
HC98JA051D
I am not sure if they replaced it with the same one or not.
Looking on the internet for a new one all the parts places say the one that fits that model is Dual, Round, 370 Volts, 35/3 Microfarads. Also one site said Dual, Round, 440 Volts, 35/5 Microfarads. My question is the difference in Microfarads.
My AC works fine but i'm not sure what to get for a spare.Can I replace a 370v 50/5 with a 370 35/3 or 440 35/5?
Thank you for any help you can give.

Stay with the 370v 50/5. You can go higher in voltage rating, but don't go less on the MFD rating. It's important for the proper operation of the compressor and the fan motor.

Make sure you get a U.S. made capacitor or you will be replacing it again after one season.

Keep in mind, the 50uf is for the compressor and the 5 is for the fan motor.  You can string caps together to get what you need.  If you want spares, just get a couple of 50's and a couple of 5's.  You pay extra for dual run caps.  I avoid them when I can.  Just need to make one jumper wire for the Common.  ;-)
