maytag Gas Dryer isnt getting hot enough
« on: January 02, 2017, 02:25:14 PM »

We have Maytag DG312 -- oldy but goody. I have looked thru the threads here and elsewhere. The dryer will heat for 2-3 minutes, shut off heat, they repeat several minutes later throughout the cycle. It doesnt ever seem to get as hot as it used to.

We have replaced the coils and tested them after there was no change. We have tested continuity with wires removed to the flame sensor and the round thermostat (?) on the fire tube. both have continuity.

The venting is short using a flexible metal tubing.

Testing the thermostat in the vent tube got continuity between the purple lead and the yellow, but none between the orange terminal and either of the other two.

I'm stumped. Any suggestions are appreciated! :thanks:

You might need to check the output air flow and temperature in the vent tube with the tube disconnected from the wall . Also does the unit dry the clothes eventually or does it just take a long time ? You should consider taking the dryer front cover off and check to see if the blower wheel in the housing is loose on the motor shaft. The older models tend to wear out the bore of the plastic hub.  When this happens The air flow is reduced possibly causing the dryer to shut off the gas flow prematurely. Also the regulating thermostat may need to be replaced but I would look at the air flow first. Also you may need to dismantle the blower setup to clean it out . Some of these units build up a lot of lint which is hard to clean out unless you dismantle it.

Sounds like a air flow problem. Did you ever get it figured out?
