Lower part of refrig side freezes items
« on: September 28, 2008, 09:28:50 PM »

Side by side.  It is about 15+ years old.  The lower shelf of the refrigerator side freezes items while items in the upper shelves of the refrig side are fine.  Not sure what would cause this.  Any help would be appreciated.

Model SCD25N2L

This is an Amana unit which uses a control damper as pictured below to let air into the fresh food section. It is located in the top left corner of the refrigerator side.  If this damper is stuck or not operating properly, freezeing air can  enter thru the lower return air grille from the freezer and cause temps to be too cold. You can look up the part number for the control damper assembly by typing your model into the parts lookup above. Also be sure the temperature controls are not turned up too cold. The target temperature is 0 degrees in the freezer, 38 in the FF section. The cold control on this unit should not be turned up past midway, or it might start freezing things.
