jenn-air gas oven not holding temp slow to heat
« on: January 16, 2015, 12:06:06 PM »

jenn-air model jgw8130ddb

My oven has become temperamental.  Sometimes it works just fine, sometimes it takes forever to heat.  Sometimes after reaching the set temperature, the digital readout will hold but the actual temp in the oven will drop. For example if the oven heats to 350,  the temp inside can drop but it will still read 350.  If I change the setting to 375, the oven temp reading might drop to 275 and then heat to 375.  The broiler works just fine.

The igniter is not where i can see it through the bottom of the oven, and I haven't removed the bottom grill yet to try to find it.  Since it is mounted in a cabinet, I don't think I would see it by looking there anyway and would have to remove the bottom of the oven, which I can't quite figure out how to do yet.  So, I haven't gone after it with the multimeter yet.

I have a guess at what the problem is, but thought I would run it past the pros before I started throwing parts at it.  What so you think?

Manual for your model. https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B-i5KqMA2RZwOF9LeG9FRTZ0bVU/view?usp=sharing
Looks like the bake and broil use the same ignitor. http://www.appliancepartspros.com/whirlpool-oven-ignitor-74007498-ap4096256.html
Before removing ignitor wet the screws that hold ignitor in with water so they come out easier.Shut power off.

Also you would be looking for amp draw on ignitor.3.2 amps-3.6 amps.

My oven is a little different than the one in the manual (the bottom comes off differently and some other minor things).    I have removed the bottom of the oven, but am unable to pull the wires connecting the igniter through the opening as described in the manual.  My multimeter is a probe type and I am unsure how to check amperage or ohms when I can't get to the connections.  I think I need to get behind the back wall of the oven so i can get to the connections to test or replace the igniter.  If this is the case, would it be easier to take the oven apart from the inside or pull it out of the cabinet it is mounted in?
