Fix it or replace it?
« on: June 13, 2014, 02:11:46 PM »

Hi everybody. I have a Kenmore electric dryer, model 110.96588210. It's pretty old, 20 years or more. It stopped making heat about 6 weeks ago. I found the bad part, a thermal cut-off, and replaced it and the heating coil, just for fun. After that the dryer worked like new. Until today. It again stopped making heat, and the same thermal cut-off was bad again. The red wire attached to the thermostat or the thermal cutoff (sorry, the wire just fell off) looked like it had a burnout at the connection, and that did not happen at the time of the first thermal cutoff problem.

Starting to think there is a different problem somewhere in the dryer. Before I put another new thermal cut-off in it I wanted to ask if anyone out there might have ideas or experience with this kind of electrical problem.

thanks a lot.

When a wire burns at a connection point, that is usually from a loose connection. If it burned where it attached to the thermal fuse, that could produce enough heat to open the fuse.

If you have gone through thermals twice now. You will want to check your venting.
