Whirlpool SXS with defrost isues
« on: March 13, 2014, 08:41:35 AM »

I am having difficulty with a whirlpool SXS ref with the automatic defrost control board. This is the model with the slide controls and the board in the upper right hand corner by the water filter reset. Does anyone know how to bypass that board to force a defrost?

If the unit is frosting up, ohm the defrost heater and defrost thermostat, make sure the therm. is cold when you test it , both should show full continuity or 0. If both parts check out as good replace def board. a lot of times when the def. board fails the light for the filter is out or flickering, but test the other 2 components to be sure.

for whirlpool sxs with adptive defrost control (adc) you can simply unplug unit from wall, wait at least 20 seconds turn cold control off then reapply power. if defrost t-stat is closed you will hear an audible click that signals that the defrost heater should be powered up. if you hear 2 audible clicks this means the def t-stat is open. these steps are also documented on the tech sheet located behind toe grill on your refrigerator
