Whirlpool Dryer Heat Stays on
« on: January 10, 2014, 11:16:09 AM »

Hello,
I have a Whirlpool Dryer Model # WED5540SQO and when its drying it shuts off  and trips the breaker. I turn it back on and if I open the door to stop the dryer the heating element stays on ? Could this be a cycling thermastat or what elase?
Thanks for ANY help in advance.

Hi: Sounds like you have a heating element that has shorted out to the housing.
Unplug the dryer and gain access to the heating element so that you can remove it and see is this is the problem.
If it is you will require a new element to fix it. Hope this helps

I am agree with Major.
In this case test/check continuity first one foot of the heater element (the spade connector that is in the ceramics) if its grounded (from spade to any grounded screw) then check the other spade. If you have continuity then replace heater element.

If don't, then check your hi-limit thermostat , maybe is not opening.
