Maytag ice2o. Mf12568AES
« on: September 11, 2013, 07:06:53 AM »

After 6 yrs the fridge is not cooling top or freezer.   In the tray under the compressor is a bright green liquid and looks to have dripped off the copper line coming off the compressor and ran to the low spot and to the pan.  Getting a sealed system leak so far down the road seems strange but does anybody have some insight on this?

There are several reasons for it not to cool. I would check the frost pattern on the evaporator before suspecting a leak.

The only reason I'm thinking leak is the bright green in the tray. My understanding is this is the color of the oil they use in the system.  I hope it's not that but what could the green be?

Oxidized copper causes green patina. Like the Statue of Liberty. Oil is brown..

This is Statue of Liberty green and the whole pan is green 1/8 in deep.  Not working but not sure what it is?

Found out today it has a leak on the hi side copper line coming off compressor and isn't worth fixing.  Nice job maytag.   Never again

I fix them for $700.  I use a good quality Embraco compressor and I paint the tubing in the pan so it won't corrode again.
