Just picked up a used maytag washer and got home, cleaned and filled w/ water and then it completely shut off, won't do anything. Please help, this is my third try buying a used washer from Craigslist in a month. Thanks

Not to be rude but why buy someone Else's problem off CL.   I had a customer that did the same thing, cost to repair on 2 of them was cost prohibitive.  Said he was a compulsive gambler he was playing the odds.

Will it spin if you advance timer directly to spin mode? With timer in spin mode, does the timer now advance on it's own?

Alright, thank you so much for your help; after reading the comments from the technicians and those of you who know, I realized that I was missing the plunger that tells the lid switch that the lid is closed, it probably fell out while moving the washer. I was able to take it out (very easy) and am washing now, bypassed it with a clamp, the part only costs about $4.00 and it looks very easy to replace-also the videos on youtube are great.
