Whirlpool clutch went bad again.
« on: May 21, 2013, 08:28:01 AM »

OK i read quite a few places on what would make the washer make it not spin, so i replaced a few things to fix it. I replaced the connector from the motor to tranny didn't need it. Replaced the 4 knobs to the agitator so could connect better on the agitating the water it needed it. Then i replaced the clutch on the tranny to the drum since the clutch i could easily move with one finger around. Now it seem to work just fine but after a few loads no go anymore seem the clutch went bad again i can tell this since took it back apart can move with one finger again. Now i can tell it wasn't just a bad clutch do to the fact that all the shaving around the clutches shows me that it was just wore down so fast. What would make the clutch go bad that fast yes i did do one heavy load but shouldn't killed it after 4 loads (only 1 heavy load). From the bottom of the washer with the tranny off i can turn the plastic thing to turn the drum left and right.

oh one other note i did just try to hoot the drill to motor shaft forward and reverse and it seem to be catching just fine tried to stop it from moving and couldn't in the one direction. in the other it just move back and forth like the agitator is to move.

Did you buy a genuine Whirlpool FSP clutch? There are clutches being sold on ebay and amazon for $8 and they are junk, will only last a few loads before wearing out. You should only be able to rotate the brake cam driver counterclockwise which releases the brake and allows rotation of the basket drive. If you can rotate it clockwise, the brakes aren't doing their job.
