Neptune Laundry Center
« on: May 10, 2013, 09:14:52 AM »

Had A Neptune Laundry center yesterday that was built in 1998. Bad tub bearing and was out of warranty. I quoted him  $1300 for the repair and he said yes. :o

When I asked him why he said it was cheaper than buying a new one and he loves it. Wow...

I have a lot of people who can afford it, so will fix if its today.   They say, can you do it today, if so do it.  Brent@CanBc

It's an all-in-one Neptune MLE2000AYW. It's not really stacked since it's all one unit.

I've been changing the bearings and tub seal on the Neptunes. I can't sell a complete tub because of the cost. A bearing job is faster because I leave the tub in place.  I can do them in about 45 minutes to an hour.

Have you had trouble pounding the old bearings out. I worry about damaging the tub.

The inner bearing can be a real pain.  I've heated them with a torch but you have to be really careful not to melt the tub.  I just had one in the shop that was being stubborn.  I wanted give the inner bearing a shot of liquid 134a to shrink the bearing, but that would be illegal. So, I took it outside and gave it a shot of liquid propane.  I purged all the LP out of the tub with compressed air before pounding on the bearing.  It seemed to work really well, only took a few whacks after that.  Of course, there's no way I could do this in a customer's home.

Has anyone tried a front wheel bearing puller? Our any other type of automotive bearing puller?

I have been looking at them but most are really expensive. And if it didn't work what would I use them for?

Harbor Freight has a set for $99. The next time I get a Neptune or W/P tub, I'll measure the openings and see if that kit will work. I think I can return it if I don't use it. Although, it would come in handy the next time I do the wheel bearings on the Saturn.  My 12 ton press can barely do the job.
