Maytag gas dryer model DG710
« on: April 08, 2017, 10:08:51 AM »

I am currently working on an older Maytag gas dryer model DG710 with an intermittment heating problem. Sometimes it will fire up  and sometimes not. The igniter is turning on  and I hear the valve solenoids click. When it does fire up it only runs for a minute or two before it shuts off and then will not restart. The ignitor does reglow as expected.  I have changed or bypassed all of the t-stats to no avail. Taking the control panel loose I found this dryer has no timer but rather a switch arrangement .It also has a sensor drying function . The gas valve is an older type with 3 coils and I am considering replacing it with a newer 2 coil type. Does anyone have some experience with this old dog to steer me in the right direction ? The dryer runs very well for an older model.

Same trouble as the new coil valves, sounds like one of the coils is heating up and quitting. On ebay the coils are still available for around $85.00 part number 279137

Thanks for the info. I will look for another dryer of the same type and vintage and possibly swap parts to get a working unit.

I found a scrap Kenmore dryer  that used the same gas valve/coil arrangement. It was taken out and transferred to the Maytag and it now works OK. It looks like it was dragged thru a swamp but it works !
