Dryer starts and stops
« on: August 05, 2012, 08:12:26 AM »

Hi,

I have a Hotpoint nbxr463gb1ww dryer. When I turn on the dryer it stays on for about five minutes and then it stops and does not turn again. I have to wait a couple of minutes before I can turn it on again and then it does the same thing again. Any Suggestions?

Thanks in advance for help.

Dryer motors have a thermal circuit breaker built into the motor. When the motor overheats, this will shut the motor off until it cools down. You should
take the dryer apart, make sure every thing turns and freely, and clean all the lint buildup out of the motor. If it then still does the same thing, replace the motor.

The dryer drum rides on 4 glides. When the wear thin the drum tends to pinch. This causes the motor to overheat. Inspect the dryer for worn component. I recently came across one like yours and did a video:
