I'd love to get a new Multimeter—mine is an old, cheap one from Radio Shack that's a little unreliable.  :embarassed:

Crossing my fingers!

My father in-law was an electrican and he had always helped me out until he passed away suddently last year.

I am trying to learn from some of his old books but he didn't have any equipment as the company he worked for provided everything.

I could really use a meter like this.

I actually need one of these because one of the recessed halogen lights in my apt stopped working.

At first it was flickering, at random times (along with the other lights) and then went out totally.

The only reasons I can think of that may have caused the flickering (which hasn't happened since) are

1) Maybe there is something wrong with the dimmer (this room is on a 3 way circuit with 1 dimmer)

2) Maybe it has something to do with the Ethernet over powerline running through the apartment.

When I removed the housing and changed the bulb it didn't seem to make a difference, so I'm thinking I need to check the power with a multimeter.

Also in the bedroom it seems as if one of the halogen recessed lights is much dimmer than the others causing uneven room light.  I wonder if that is the next to go...

My need for a Fluke 113 Multimeter are great, but my monetary resources are less than stellar.  I try to fix things myself but many electrical things I am unable to troubleshoot because of the lack of a meter!

I am interested in the opportunity to win the fluke meter for a special reason. That reason is a man that has proven his character and integrity many years now to me. He has been there for so many friends to help with their appliance issues when they arise no matter what the hour and not being paid.
Not too long ago his meter that he has had for many reliable years was taken. He hasn't been able to replace it. When it is mentioned he has a disappointment come over him. He is a scientific type personality so he would use it for many reasons.
I would love to see his face light up if I were able to replace this valueable item for him.
Thanks for your consideration and I will guarantee the validity of my story if need be. :)

I need a new multimeter- mine is all worn out, the cord has a short and it is the ancient push button type...I fixed our fridge with it, but I had to keep wriggling the cord to get it to read correctly..... I fix everything around the house and my friends electronics and appliances- that's the only way to keep the electronics going since we have no money to buy new stuff, let alone a new multimeter.  I have been taking a computer cd course in electronics that a friend gave to me as well and would like to have a working meter to learn on correctly too.   I would be forever grateful if I win this and it would help us out as a family very much

I really need the Fluke 113 because it will hold up to working with me, and life in my van and tool belt. Most others I have owned have not been tough enough and broke way too soon, they just aren't tough enough. Plus, the bright yellow case looks really cool and will help me find it when needed.

I just returned from 3 weeks in Africa doing electrical volunteer work.  Our last stop was at a remote mission hospital where they run only on generator power.  I had an Ideal multimeter that I left there for them to use to check on the hertz of the generator.  They were running at 41HZ instead of 50 so really not very good on hospital equipment. A replacement like the Fluke 113 would be awesome.

Hi
I use my meter a lot, (I do small renovations) and I use to have a really good one. Well one day I blew it up which is not as hard as one might imagine, for those that are curious please just don't be.
Fortunately I had a junker which got me by and I'm still using it. I figure that using it for awhile might it will teach me some humility, and slow me down a bit so I can learn to pay proper attention to what I'm doing.
But (there is always a but) I will eventually go and purchase another good one but if I am fortunate to become the proud owner of this Fluke 113 multimeter I will also be the proud owner of a saved shopping trip.

           Thanks for reading my ramblings.
                                                              Vince
P.S.
I promise to take really good care of my next multimeter. LOL

Incidentally, the advise I got from this site saved me a ton of money and aggravation when my dishwasher went on the fritz. I never knew what a turbidity sensor was until you enlightened me.

Thank you, and keep up the good work.

This would be a great addition to my toolbox.  My brothers (twins) and I built a multitude of electronics projects as kids and ham radio operators.  We used to raid the electronic junk stores on Arch Street in Philadelphia and turned out parents basement into an electronic wonderland.  Had an antique Fluke meter we salvaged from one of the "fiinds".  Currently using a $4 DVM from Harbor Freight but could definately appreciate an upgrade to the Fluke.  Think this a great idea to give someone who can use the instrument a chance to do so.
I've been out of work for over 2 years so my wallet won't allow me to purchase one.

This would be a great tool for use on my boat! I have a cathodic protection system (the same as the Navy uses) and it requires a better meter than I have to fully protect the aluminum hull. Fluke is a top brand. My college uses them in our auto and electronic technology programs.

Although I didn't like the rectal probe the aliens used on me when I was abducted form the banks of the Chattahoochie while night fishin' fer big cats 3 years ago, we did find out we had sumthin' in common when I awoke to see they were takin' their recto-cerebro impedance data and usin' a Fluke to measure it! When I said "Oh, man, you fellas use a Fluke too!", they told me, (well they really didn't tell me...it was kinda like thought transfer stuff) "Of course, they are the finest instruments in the universe". They also let me know that of everone they'd ever checked, I had the lowest fraction of an ohm between my brain and rectum...

We will give this meter a very nice home, and he will have several inferior friends to play with.
He will tell them that it is OK to have frayed leads, and that they should be the ones to touch the high voltage and high current because it will be a good experience for them.  He will be able to tell them to calibrate to his reading when they are wrong, or that they should get a new battery.

Fluke bought up the BioMed division of the company I work for.  So (almost) all my friends packed up and moved from Vermont to Carson City NV.  Including the Executive VP - he left me his rubber tree plant.

I'm feeling the need for an accurate multimeter, especially a yellow one.  I have two cheap red Chinese multimeters - both report DCV about 20% high.  No big deal as long as you know that's the case...

I was going to tell you how much I wanted this Fluke because I just became a DIY'er, but after reading all of the other replies, I think you should give it to Don S. (reply 24, I believe). His reply struck a chord with me, because it reminded me of my dad and how many quality tools he lost while helping others. I don't know Don S. but I believe his reply was true and I would like to think he is making someone very happy with a quality meter like the Fluke.

I started my appliance repair business a little over a year ago, as you can imagine start up cost for tools can kill you. My old Fluke 72 which was around 10 years old when I got it, and that was over 20 years ago has finally had all the SMOKE escape from it. I have lowered my standards and bought a cheap Amprobe VOM at the local Parts house to keep me going. A brand new Fluke 113 Multimeter would be an excellent addition to my business tools, not to say a big boost to my outcome on life, happiness and the everlasting pursuit of free enterprise.

As the Service Manager of an HVAC service and installation company I utilize a multi-meter on a daily basis. While I have Fluke, Amprobe, and UEI meters I have always preferred the Fluke. Had a model 12 that I used for years before it bought the farm. I cna always use a new meter especially a well priced meter which this appears to be. As we train new employees in house they often need to "borrow" my tools :'(, this normally leads to lead and meter damage. :tickedoff:!
Why should I win this meter? Because of knowledge, my ability to utilize the meter properly without injury to myself or others lowers the liability risk of the giver :2funny:

Wow, there seems to be a lot of interest in this meter. Yesterday I received one of the Fluke 113 meters I ordered. You can see a photo of it next to my old faithful Fluke 16 on our facebook page.

http://facebook.com/appliancejunk

The Fluke 113 we are giving away is a brand new one, the photo of the one on our facebook page is one I ordered for myself to try out. I can tell you that the New Fluke 113 has the same quality feel to it as my old Fluke does. Seems Fluke has not changed the quality of there meters over the years like some other companies have.

Feel free to post as many times as you like in this topic. Your name will only be used once in the random drawing.

Good luck everyone.

Hi. I work for a small childrens camp. As with most camps, we are on a very tight budget. We try to have the high school and college staff help on maintenance. They are ambitious and willing but their knowledge base and skill level isn't up to, well..... Lets just say the tools I provide them come back in less than operable conditions. So, that said, our meter from this past summer is toast. Having used Fluke meters before I have always been impressed with their durability; this may be an opportunity to provide a field test in a harsh environment.
     Thanks for the opportunity, TK

Found this a little late! We could use one. My husband troubleshoots stuff all the time. The Simpson meter has gotten a real workout over the years!

Thanks for the offer!  I'm an IT professional who could use one of these from time to time, but typically turn to someone who has one for help when the need arises.
