Ice maker

I have a refrigerator model # TBX18BHB, serial # VT594609, Mine doesn't have an Ice maker. Since the unit was manufacture date was 11/86, can I still get an ice maker for it? Maybe an universal one, if not original equipment?

Thought it was kind of funny myself.
Can't recall ever looking up a ice maker and being shown a ice cube tray. 


Seems most of the time there is just nothing found if a ice maker is not available.

I wouldn’t swear to it but I am almost sure the IM6 icemaker kit would work on your refrigerator.

I looked at the parts breakdown and yours does have the icemaker fill tube coming into the freezer so I don’t see any reason the IM6 kit wouldn’t work. The kit should come with tubes and wire adapters to retrofit the new icemaker into your old refrigerator.

The only reason it will not work is if your refrigerator is old enough to call for the round cube icemaker, in which case the plug will not work.

It should be on the back or side wall of the freezer on the same side that the water tube comes in.

You may have to snap off a cover to see the plug

I went back and looked at the parts breakdown again and I am 100% sure the parts diagram I am looking at shows an icemaker fill tube as well as an icemaker receptacle (the plug I referred to). However it doesn’t show an icemaker but this isn’t unusual because some of the models that didn’t come from the factory with an icemaker don’t show the icemaker on the parts breakdown. Not that I have seen everything but I have never seen one with a receptacle and a fill tube that wouldn’t accept an icemaker kit (even if it doesn’t show one on the parts diagram). 

Assuming the parts diagram is accurate, the only question is if the refrigerator was made when they were still using the round cube icemakers or if it will take the half moon icemaker (IM6). I believe I have actually replaced some of the round cube icemakers with the IM6 kit but it all depends on the type plug.

Where about is this plug? In the freezer?

It should be in the back left corner either on the back wall or the sidewall about halfway up. There will more than likely be a cover over the plug unless someone has taken it off.
 
If you don’t find it take a picture of the inside of your freezer and I will tell you where the plug is or if you have one.
