Metal filings around neptune tub

I was hoping for an experienced second opinion on this washer I am looking at.  Its a Maytag Neptune front loader.  I must be bearings and I understand it is a hell of a job for a novice and was making sure I was on the right track before I took it right apart.  It squeals quite a bit on spin.

I wonder why the fillings are on the top... I would take the belt off and spin the tub and motor to check which one is making the noise....

Isnt that where the weep hole is?  Or is that on the side?  The only other thing I could think of is there's something rubbing above the tub on the cabinet and the shavings are landing there.

I think this is left over from drilling the weep hole,just about every Neptune I've seen has it.

Squealing on spin is your clue.
Replace the drum.

The bearings went out on my first Neptune. Started with an irregular clicking. Then of course it slowly developed into a full blown roar.
But it never squealed.I loved seeing the looks on visitors faces when that thing started spinning. LOL

Model is a mah21.
It may well be more of a roar than a squeal.  I am working on so many of the units I get them mixed up.  My notes say noise during spin.  I will have another look.
