I checked both continuity and then for voltage in the holder.  Like I say it showed that there was continuity but no voltage on one site when it was closed or open.  When I took the fuse out the continuity was not there.  I couldn't read what size fuse went in it and I had an 8 amp fuse so I put it in it.  I couldn't find what size it was.  Do you know what size it is supposed to be?  I do think that the out of balance switch is not functioning correctly.  When I put the washer in it walked across the floor and never cut off.  I thought there was someone out side with a huge bass amp thumping.  NO JOKE.  The washer was out of level.

Your meter uses 9 volts and can "lie" to you, when higher voltage is applied it can open.

Don't remember for sure just what size of the fuse is.

For years I have always just replaced the assembly and moved on to the next call.

You know that is not a bad idea.  I think about all of my washers are close to the same.  It might not be a bad idea to have some spare parts on hand also.  I know belts and maybe spring for lid switch??? What else do you recommend for these old washers for stock? O0

For stocking parts maybe a set of belts, but other then that I would just wait and order what you need when you need it.
These washers are really well built and you may not ever need any other parts.

As for were to order parts, check out this link.

You were not reading fuse continuity.
You were reading the short circuit to ground that caused the fuse to blow.

The reason it is not blowing now is the large fuse you replaced it with.
The fuse should be 1(one) amp.

The over-rated fuse may cause the a hazard.

I don't believe Maytag ever sold the fuse as a separate part. If the fuse blew they wanted you to replace the switch assembly
because one of the switches had failed.

If that fuse is blown she won't fill. If the small white switch is blown she will fill but not wash. If the large switch is blown the washer won't spin. I used to sell .03 amp barrel fuses for a buck a piece when I had my appliance parts store.
