maytag washer a9400 not doing nothing
« on: May 01, 2012, 03:03:23 PM »
its an older maytag washer and the lid switch dropped on the spin cycle.  I put it back together and adjusted back switch.  The spring must have been bent cecause it fell out again.  i bent spring a bit on ends to keep it in.  I put it back together and it wont do anything.  I checked the switches for the lid and its getting power and working as it should.

OK. I promised I would post what I find.  I am good to my word, as hard as this is. ................I found out that I am an idiot.  I checked fuse again and it read continuity fine.  Decided to check current on both sides, uh well only one side.  conclusion. yes i am a halfbaked.   No illegal drug pun implied.  I own tanning salons.  I replaced fuse and it took off and looks like it working fine.  I am still a little confused why continuity is good but fuse is blown.

Thanks for all your help.  I was ready to call in for reinforcements.

Hard to say, did you remove the fuse when you checked it or did you check it in the holder?

Anyway it works, that's what counts.  O0

When that fuse blows I often find the smaller of the two switches at fault. Something to keep in mind if the fuse blows again.

Thanks for the update.

I checked both continuity and then for voltage in the holder.  Like I say it showed that there was continuity but no voltage on one site when it was closed or open.  When I took the fuse out the continuity was not there.  I couldn't read what size fuse went in it and I had an 8 amp fuse so I put it in it.  I couldn't find what size it was.  Do you know what size it is supposed to be?  I do think that the out of balance switch is not functioning correctly.  When I put the washer in it walked across the floor and never cut off.  I thought there was someone out side with a huge bass amp thumping.  NO JOKE.  The washer was out of level.

Your meter uses 9 volts and can "lie" to you, when higher voltage is applied it can open.

Don't remember for sure just what size of the fuse is.

For years I have always just replaced the assembly and moved on to the next call.

You know that is not a bad idea.  I think about all of my washers are close to the same.  It might not be a bad idea to have some spare parts on hand also.  I know belts and maybe spring for lid switch??? What else do you recommend for these old washers for stock? O0
