Maytag Dishwasher PDB3600AWX won't start
« on: April 30, 2012, 06:30:46 PM »
Unit is getting power and leds work but motor doesn't come on.  It is getting 120v to the blue wire terminal on the motor 4-terminal connector - this terminal goes to the overload protection inside the motor.   Also checked  the relay for continuity - OK.  This is as far as I've gotten.  Any help appreciated!

... It is getting 120v to the blue wire terminal
.. and should be 0v on the Gray Wire

Right, I don't believe there was voltage on the other 3 wires.  There was a pretty big mouse nest under there, but no chewed wires evident.  Unit just didn't work one day w/o warning.  It did work great before that.

there should be 120v AC on all the other wires, except the winding for the selected function

Hmmm....I think it was on the wash function.  I had the connector unplugged when I checked voltages.   Is the overload internal fuse something that couild be blown?   There was no burned smell evident.  If the motor voltages are wrong, would this indicate a bad function switch?  Or?  If the motor is bad, I probably won't replace it.  This thing is about 15 years old.
Thanks

all voltages should be made with devices connected
(unless otherwise directed)

Well, don't have a way to get to the connector terminals with it plugged in.  There was such a large nest around the bottom of the motor, completely covering it with insulation material, I'm thinking it may have overheated and blew the overload protection.  Is there an easy way to get to this, without pulling the motor?
Thanks again

If the Thermal Overload is good,
you should be able to get some kind of resistance reading between the Blue Terminal and any of the other Terminals

But it has to be plugged in, right?  Is the overload device accessible w/o pulling the motor?  Is it some kind of soldered in fuse?

Oh, on the schematic I see the overload device connects to the other terminals thru the motor coils which should read small resistances whether or not the connector is plugged in.  If the overload device is open there would be very high or infinity resistance.  Is this a thermal or a current overload device?
