Hi There,

I have a Kenmore 80 Series Electric Dryer that has been shutting off after about five minutes.  Once it shuts off it won't turn back on again.  When I press the start button, it makes a buzzing noise, but doesn't totally turn on.  After waiting an hour or two, it will will turn on if I press the start button for another 5 minutes.  Any suggestions on the possible cause?  I can't get to the back of the dryer for the model number right now.  Once I get some help moving it back from the wall, I can provide that as well.

I appreciate any help!

The model number is often located inside the dryer door.

Help me find my model number.

Looks like your missing the first three digits. Being a Kenmore 80 I'm going to guess the full model number is 110.66812691

Sounds like your dryer motor is at fault at needs to be replaced.

Here is the dryer motor for model 110.66812691

Dryer Drive Motor Part # 279827

 Thanks AJ,

You are correct, I missed those first couple numbers.

I also wanted to note, that when I do get the dryer turned on for those 5 minutes, it seems to take a second longer to get started.  Do you think I should also replace the belt for that?

It's probably also doing that just because the motor is bad, but a belt is cheap and if it's frayed looking I would go ahead and replace it well you have it apart.

Your model dryer uses Drive Belt Part # 341241

You could possibly have a severe lint buildup in the blower vent. Also bad drum rollers and a stuck tension roller.
All these things should be checked.

True, all good things to inspect when you take it apart to look at the motor.

Thanks so much!  We will check these as well.  Are you suggesting that the lint, rollers or tension roller could cause the overall problem of shutting off after 5 minutes, or that it could be causing the start delay?

Possibly, but chances are the motor is bad and will need to be replaced.
It cost you nothing to take it apart, clean it out good, make sure the rollers turn free and try it again. If it still acts up replace the motor.

One last question for now, I think.   :)  Would you know of where I could find a schematic for the dryer to aid my husband as he is checking all of this and taking the dryer apart?

I could not find a schematic for that model, sorry.
Maybe another tech will be able to find one.

Sometimes they will stick a schematic on the back of the dryer or even better yet a tech sheet inside the control panel, like behind the timer.

Let us know if you have any more questions.

If you click on the parts links/photos I listed above you will also see additional repair videos.

Also have you husband take a look at the power cord were it connects to the back of the dryer. Make sure the connections are tight. Sometimes the connections for the cord can come loose and give you problems.
