maytag dishwasher wont turn on

Our Maytag mdb7709aws1 dishwasher won't turn on. The buttons for the different cycles and options all work but when I push the "start" button nothing happens. I figured it is either the circuit board inside or the touch board with the ribbon strip. Any ideas or ways to troubleshoot these components. Thanks
