Please help, my dishwasher stopped draining.

We have never had a problem with our Whirlpool dishwasher, but it won't drain the water out now.

It's 7 years old and is a model gu1500xtkb0.

How do I see if something is stuck in the pump when it's full of water?

only thing you can do is bail the water out, or use a wet vac.

Cotton bath towels are also good for getting the last bit of water out of the cracks.

Have you recently installed a garbage disposal, and hooked the dishwasher drain hose to the disposal?

If you did, you need to knock out the plastic plug that is molded into the disposal dishwasher drain port.  The installation instructions for the disposal will explain this.
