I think the rotor would have to be changed if the magnets made any kind of contact with the stator. The stator should be ok. I've never been able to repair one to find out because the customer just went and bought a replacement washer. You would also need to change the drum assembly because the spider shaft is probably corroded as well. When you take apart the tub, inspect the the plastic tub for any signs of damage. It's possible that the rotating drum may have damaged the plastic drum. If so, I would seriously recommend replacement of the tub and drum assembly together. The job is not that hard for one person to do. Good luck.
