Whirlpool Vertical Modular Washer

Anybody know what would cause one of these (mod. #WTW4880AW1) to burn resistor R244 on the control board?  I've followed the tech sheet to the letter, but can't find anything wrong except it will almost instantly burn out a new board!  I'd guess it's in the circuit with the triacs and motor relay.  Motor windings ohm in normal range (at the upper edge of the range, but in it); capacitor seemed ok but I put a new one in just in case, still blew the board!!! Tub is free, nothing binds, HELP! I just ate $300 on this one, plus an UNHAPPY customer with a dead - less than 2 year old washer!
