Dryer Timer Problem
« on: March 17, 2012, 12:23:07 PM »
Our GE dryer DBXR463GW gets plenty of heat but the timer knob does not function properly.  It has been erratic, sometimes moving but mostly not. It makes no difference where I set it, for instance 20 minutes, one time it will count down and buzz off and the next time it will not.  Another problem with the dial it does not line up with the appropriate position.  If the dial is functioning then it will shut off when the dial reaches 10 minutes.  We can start the dryer when the knob is positioned to off.

Would a loose dial cause the timer to not move through the cycle?

yes, if it's actually on "Auto-Dry" and the clothes aren't dry yet ...

The dial is not loose. Is there any chance that it is not the timer? Could it be a connection or another part that sends a signal to the timer? I have read about resitance tests to test the timer.  Remember, the dial does not line up to the appropriate position but also is not stripped.

Thanks for all of your help.  Any additional thoughts would be appreciated but I expect that I will replace the timer.
