Washing machine cabinet removal LSW9700PQ1
« on: March 13, 2012, 08:09:07 PM »
I have a broken washer and need to remove the cabinet to get to the (suspected) broken parts.

Or, is there a better way to go about removing the gear box/motor/shaft.

The problem is the washer was overloaded one too many times, some  people in the house don't know how to load it properly. Anyway, I digress. It won't spin, it pumps the water out but will not spin. I suspect the clutch(hopefully) or something in the gear box.

So far I have verified that the coupler is good. Time to remove the transmission and inspect the clutch. What am I looking for in a bad clutch?

Ok, got it out. The clutch linings look a worn. Not terribly so, but worn all the same. Should I replace the whole clutch assembly or just the band/lining assembly? The clutch "drum" looks to be pretty glazed over, which could be cleaned up with a little light grit sandpaper or steel wool. I also couldn't get the clutch "drum" off the shaft without removing the whole shaft/cover from the gear case. It came apart as one assembly. Everything looked in order in the gear case as far as I could tell.

Their is a clutch replacement video  around here somewhere. Check the ear on the basket drive. If it is busted off the brake won't release the tub. The clutch is easily replaced by removing the retainer with a flat blade screwdriver. Shawn has a video:

with coupler on trans. shaft , i would turn counterclockwise, one way makes agitation, and spin, turn clockwise , see if clutch turns, if see movement on both directions, then replace clutch, if not, you have transmission problem.

jw beat me, make sure drive block is ok too., jw sent a video
