Frigidaire Front Load E5E Error
« on: February 28, 2012, 09:24:32 PM »
Model# FWFB9200ES0

So this washer is getting a E5E error, communication error.  The connections on the both the control board and the motor control seem fine.  How can I be sure that it's the motor control, voltage check?  I hear a humming come from the main control board.  Any pointers appreciated.

Thanks!

No, I have it still sitting in my garage.  I'll see if I can take a peek at it this weekend.

Did you check continuity on wires with an Ohmmeter from plug J6 on control board to plug J3 on motor speed control? That is first step. Pain in the you-know-what but necessary to identify or eliminate wires as problem. Without communication from the main control, the motor control board won't output correct signals to the motor, so it won't do any good to test that until communication error is cleared.

I am not aware of the factory providing any voltage test points for the main control board in this case. Once the wires are tested and deemed good, the next step is to replace the main control, as it is usually a processor error. In my experience, those go out more often than the motor control boards.

Good luck!

I got to look at it more in depth today.  One of the shocks is busted and one of the plugs on the motor control was loose after all.  After securing it, I started getting an OD - open door error and then an E-43 error.  I removed the control board.  It doesn't appear to have any burns but it seems everything is pointing to a bad control board.

Jadsvc1, I'm assuming I need a few aligator clips and some long wire to test that correct?  And thanks for the info.

Yep. Just unplug both ends of the cable and run one long wire from the VOM to the motor board plug. A mini- alligator clip may work, but whatever you've got will do. My VOM has long enough wires that I can usually get in and test point-to-point without clips. I've also stripped and solder-tinned the end of a piece of wire to use to slip into smaller plugs and then clip one cable of the VOM to the other end of that wire. Since there's no voltage applied, there's no risk of short circuit, only crossing connections or not making a connection and getting a false reading. Good luck.

It was a bad control board.

Who's idea was it to make all those little buttons that can easily fall out from the control panel?  I knocked the panel a couple of times and the buttons a long with springs went flying every where.
