Whirl pool refrigerator will only turn back on if I tap the control box

I have  a whirlpool refrigerator that will chill to the proper point and then shut off.  The problem I am having is that it often won't kick back on and I wake up to a puddle full of water in my freezer from the ice bin.  The only way to get it to turn back on is to tap the control box in the fridge.  Could this be therostat of timer?
