Whirlpool Cabrio F-50 Error
« on: February 15, 2012, 08:05:03 PM »
Model#  wtw6600sw3

I worked on another Cabrio tonight.  It needed the tub and bearing replaced.  I didn't run it through the diagnostic mode before I started just the spin cycle (never again).  After I got done putting it together, I put it in diagnostic mode and got an F-50 error which I believe is the RPS sensor.  Can the home owner use the washer temporarily with this error?  How can I tell if it's the RPS sensor, the control board or something else causing the error?

Thanks!

Could it be possible that I tightened the rotor screw too tightly?

the 4 bolts that holds the rotor, i would not think so, unless you cracked the rotor, the allen key, i don't think you can over tighten.

i would make sure basket moves freely up & down on shaft.

It wouldn't go into spin cycle and then I loosened the Allen key a bit and it then it started to go into spin.  I didn't want to harm anything so I stopped it after a couple of minutes.  Before it would stop at 13 minutes and not countdown any further.  If the F-50 error doesn't come on during spin or wash, would the machine be safe to use for temporary until I can get back over there?

The last time I had this issue ,I phoned the whirlpool tech line they had me do a bunch of resistance checks and determined my rps was bad . I ordered the part and it subbed to a whole wiring harness and an rps ..cost was substantial .Bottom line ,didn't cure the problem .Contacted the tech line  and  a new guy had me do a number of other checks and said I needed the contol board .At this point customer bailed .Its kind of a crap shoot with these machines .I find them hard to diagnose properly .

Make sure your tub is raising up and down correctly. Then make sure your connections are on the rps sensor tight.Your not going to hurt anything using it ,if it will go thru a cycle . I have had this issue before after replacing a tub and bearing.

After doing a bit of studying last night, I came back this morning and ran it in diagnostic mode.  Every thing checked out fine.  There was the stored F-50 and F-70 errors, but it ran through the diagnostic without issue.  I also put it in spin cycle, and still good.  I contacted the home owner later in the day after they a ran at least one load.  Still working fine.

Things that I learned from this repair:
  • Always run diagnostics on it before the repair regardless if the problem looks to be an obvious fix.
  • Bring the service manual.   ;D
  • Check and double check everything.
One more question.  How long does it take you guys to install a new outer tub with bearing on these things?

Don't need a new outer tub ,as of about a month ago you can change the tub bearing and shaft .Takes less than an hour .
