GE washer (wcvh6800) off balance rubbing, smoking

The washer started smoking and making a loud noise in the last 2 minutes of the spin cycle. When i opened the door, i could smell burnt rubber. I took off the rear panel and the belt is still in tact, but i can see and feel the out of balance when i spin the drum by hand.  Prior to me disassmbling and getting in over my head, what should i be looking for/replacing?

Disassembled per the manual and found that the steel arms reinforcing the back of the basket were cracked making the basket out of round and rubbing the plastic outer tub. This washer was 3.5 years old and normal use by 2 people. Corrosion all over behind the panels. Will not buy GE again.  I do appreciate this site for providing information. I'll be back when the new cheap top loader I'm about to buy breaks as well.

Call GE and raise cain.
Do not let them fluff you off.
Be persistent and make them repair your washer.
They build crap and they know it.
