Customer reports no lights from time to time; checks back some time later and unit works properly. I went out and redid all the connectors and left unit working properly. Next day unit dead again. No lights on UI and no error lights down below on the controller. Customer turned off unit at breaker, waited and turned power back on, unit was (still) dead. I suspect the controller down below; this UI actually has tact switches (not the usual shitty membrane switches) so I don't suspect it... I did find out that Electrolux actually bought out this unit so I hope someone out there might have a clue as to what's going on. BTW, the customer also informed me that if the top rack is set at the normal height, the detergent door hits it when attempting to open! That's some serious design flaw....

I have seen DW's where the soap door hit the racks.  It seems to work fine, as long as the DW can still rinse the soap out of the soap tray.

As for the other problem, I couldn't say.  I did see this exact problem on a Whirlpool Dishwasher last year.  First I tried the control board, but it ended up being the user interface.

I usually see where the low voltage is produced, if that is easily done without PCB schematics.  Then I check to see if the low voltage is getting to any UI components.  If you are getting low voltage to the UI, but no lights, then it probably is the UI.

Finding this voltage isn't always possible (parts molded in), and it takes knowledge of how circuit board power supplies are designed.

Some of the newer boards are using SMPS (Switch Mode Power Supply), at which point it becomes hard to know what they are doing without a PCB schematic, and some IC datasheets.

Yeah, I'm leaning toward the assembly that contains the SMPS; That seems to be the controller behind the kick plate. I just hate it when I'm forced to shotgun a repair.
