Big problem had the compressor relay replaced about a year ago and my 10 year old fridge was working good.
New problem the fridge stopped cooling for about 3 hours then started working again.  The repairman came out and changed the defrost timer.  At the time I told him that the water stopped working at the same time.
Well it happened again, water stopped working, fridge stopped cooling.  3 hours or so everything started working again.
 
Any ideas?  I thought it might be a common relay...

That is odd. Can't think of what would be common to the water in the door and the compressor that would make them both stop at the same time.

What about lights and fans?
Did they stop also?

Yes it is odd.  there is a fan running and the lights do work.  Like I said the repair guy thought it was not coming out of the defrost cycle.  He thought that the water issue was a separate problem.

I think your cold control (thermostat) is failing to close at times, part # R0161092
When it happens again give the cold control a bump with your hand to see if it comes on.
Also check the condenser fan motor at the compressor. If it is running the compressor should be running also.

You will also need to check all wiring terminals especially the Neutral wires.

Thanks I will give the cold therostat a bump.  Is that that where you adjust the temp inside the fridge?

Well I tried bumping the thermostat to no avail. Not sure what to do. Do I
> Pay the guy another $100 and have him guess at another part?
> Or do I just break down and buy a new one since the unit is at least 11 years old.

When this happens have you turned the defrost timer to see if it was stuck in defrost?

The defrost timer has already been replaced, part # R0131577
Could it be the compressor overload, part # 4344040

I know it was replaced from your post.
I am asking if you have turned the dial on it when it stops running?
Newer or not,it can stick in the off mode.
