Whirlpool Duet Wfw8300sw03
« on: January 23, 2012, 11:17:04 PM »
I picked up a Duet tonight.  It has bad bearings.  Two questions:

  • I had to leave it in my garage non heated and detached from the house.  It's below freezing.  Do you think it will be okay out there?  I don't want to have to replace hoses if I don't need to.
  • I'm having a hard time finding the part number for the rear tub.  Can someone post it for me?
I will either replace the rear tub or try to just replace the bearing and seal http://www.hometask.com/washerrepair.aspx

I would undo the hose to the drain pump and let the excess water run out.  I came up with a part # for the rear tub as W10112658 that substitutes to part #280251

most of my duet repairs is not the bearing, but the spin basket, due to cheap metal used to hold shaft either cracks or breaks.

I'll take it apart and see what's going on.  I bought it more for the learning experience.  Thanks for all your inputs!

I got it all the way apart except for the basket.  It's stuck.  I learned quickly that you can't beat it out from the back with a sledge hammer.   ;D   The metal is way too soft.   Anyone have any pointers on how to get it out without destroying it?

Ok, I got it off by using two 5 gallon buckets, a 2x4, and a sledge hammer.  the bearings are tore up and the spider arm doesn't look all that great.

This was a used appliance that I got in.  It was more profitable to part out then to fix and resale.  I learned a lot about the machine by tearing it down.

Sometimes I will fix an appliance and make little to no profit just for the learning experience.

That's becoming a theme with most of these front loaders.
