Basket Drive Stuck on Transmission

I have a basket drive that is stuck on the transmission of a Whirlpool washer model# LXR7144EQ1 I've never had that happen before.  How do you get it off without destroying the tranny?  I've been beating it with a hammer and don't seem to be making any progress.

Are you for real?  I have a couple transmissions laying around, but I wanted to save this one because it looked like it was recently replaced.

I'm beating it up from under the break pad area close as I can to the shaft.

Ewww I hate when that happens! Good luck! Mine have never turned out so good unless you have a spare transmission shaft to swap from a bad one.

I've never seen that before.  My guess is you had a seal failure of the basket drive causing water to get in and rust the shaft.  Which means you're probably looking at a new transmission anyway.

Never had one get stuck on me. Don't know if I have just been lucky or what, but they have always just slipped right off.

What was wrong with the washer to start with?

The brakes were dragging.

I've seen this happen 3 or 4 times. All were older machines. Never any real success at removing them. Try a propane torch and hammer?

This washer isn't a big money maker so I'll try to see if I have a good used basket drive sitting around.  I have transmissions.  I don't want to put too much time or money into it or it will become an organ donor.
