Basket Drive Stuck on Transmission
« on: January 22, 2012, 09:30:58 PM »
I have a basket drive that is stuck on the transmission of a Whirlpool washer model# LXR7144EQ1 I've never had that happen before.  How do you get it off without destroying the tranny?  I've been beating it with a hammer and don't seem to be making any progress.   >:(

Are you for real?  I have a couple transmissions laying around, but I wanted to save this one because it looked like it was recently replaced.

I'm beating it up from under the break pad area close as I can to the shaft.

Ewww I hate when that happens! :tickedoff: Good luck! Mine have never turned out so good unless you have a spare transmission shaft to swap from a bad one.

I've never seen that before.  My guess is you had a seal failure of the basket drive causing water to get in and rust the shaft.  Which means you're probably looking at a new transmission anyway.

Never had one get stuck on me. Don't know if I have just been lucky or what, but they have always just slipped right off.

What was wrong with the washer to start with?

I've seen this happen 3 or 4 times. All were older machines. Never any real success at removing them. Try a propane torch and hammer?

This washer isn't a big money maker so I'll try to see if I have a good used basket drive sitting around.  I have transmissions.  I don't want to put too much time or money into it or it will become an organ donor.    ;D
