GSQ9612Q2 Whirlpool washer with new and improved coupler. RESULTS

Ok, I thought the new and improved direct drive couplers with the metal inserts would make a difference.  Not really in this case.  Customer once again overloaded the machine and this time, it rounded out the transmission input shaft and the coupler.  Customer declined the transmission replacement and will go and purchase a replacement washer.


Anyone else have this problem?  This is the first and I fear there will be many more.

It's the same old coupler with the metal inserts that they have always had right, or did they make some change to the coupler with metal inserts that I don't know about?

If it's the same coupler with metal inserts as always that coupler has been out for years now, don't know that I would call it new anymore.

I have never seen a gear box shaft strip out like that and I have put a ton of the 'new' couplers on.

Going to say what you run into there is a fluke thing. How old was the washer?

You could drill a hole in that shaft and put a carter pin in there and party on!

Same here, I have even started putting in the ones with the fibers through the rubber on a regular basis.

I've heard of it but have never seen it myself.  If I see one, I'll try to get the washer and try an epoxy fix. I doubt it would be a good repair, though.

Oy!  Overloading, I thought the coupler was supposed let us fix it rather than condemn...that's a mess!

I doubt the coupler itself had anything to do with that.
