Maytag Dryer Squeaks only on Heat
« on: January 18, 2012, 06:27:53 AM »
I have a Maytag Gas Dryer MGD3600BWW that only makes a squeaking sound only when the heat is on.  I can run the dryer all day on air fluff and it is quiet as a mouse.  As soon as I turn the temperature from air fluff to any heat (regular, medium, or low) the dryer starts making a squeaking noise every 2 seconds (squeak....squeak....squeak...) a few seconds after the gas burner kicks on.  I took apart the dryer and cleaned it out. I lubed the roller and pulley shafts.  The belt looked good.  The slides looked good.   It still squeaks only on heat. Any thoughts?  Thanks.

What kind of duct do you use behind the dryer?

Sorry, my model is a MDG3600BWW (not MGD...).

It is ducted to 4" Aluminum Rigid Vent Pipe.  It comes off the dryer to a 90 degree elbow up 6 feet of straight pipe and then 90 degree elbow outside.

It may be that sheet metal pieces expand when the heat is on and they rub together. Check where the burner cone fits into the rear duct.
I have run into this problem before.

I checked burner cone where it enters the duct, that wasn't it.

I will replace both rollers.  Do I just replace the support rollers, or do I have to replace both rollers and the axles at the same time?

I bet that ducting is clogged. Causing wxcessive heat. Run it with the ducting off there for a sec and see.

Duct is free and clear from the blower motor to the outside.  I ran it with the duct off and it still squeaks.
