Maytag 4000 makes horrendous noise
« on: January 15, 2012, 09:42:14 PM »
I made a YouTube video, of when it is doing the final high-speed spin, and then stopping. It make a horrible noise. Is it a bearing? The last 30 seconds of the video is sufficient to hear the problem.

Remove the belt. Spin the tub by hand. If it still makes that noise then yes, bad bearing.

You require outer tub rear , and wash basket . If this is out of warranty I would suggest phoning whirlpool to see if they can be of assistance .If not its going to cost big dollars .

Being the video is titled....

What is wrong with 8 month old Maytag 4000 washer?

I would say it should be fixed under warranty if it's only 8 months old.

J dub...  Even if that washer was out of warr.  You can't replace the bearings in this machine.  They do not make a seal kit availabe as a seperate part.

That would make too much sense. They probably found out people were replacing bearings instead of tubs=Lost revenue.

There must be an issue with this model .Over the last few months I have repaired at least 10 of the  4000 series washers and whirlpool has replaced an additional 2 because they could not supply parts in a timely manner .All were between 6-8 months old and all needed a rear tub and wash basket .These machines were German built as apposed to Mexican and they all roared terribly . I'm sure whirlpool knows they have an issue .

Yep that's a bad bearing. Should be under warranty if it's only 8 months old. We have had a bunch of of tub replacements with maytag/whirlpool. Some we've had to do twice within just a few months of the first repair. I have not heard of any issue from the factory, but they have to know something is up with such a high number of bearing failures.....

Thanks. everyone. They are coming out tomorrow. Maytag told me to make sure the repairman calls 800-387-1086 about getting the upgraded parts they came out with in July, which is about 3 months after I bought it. Apparently it is a known flaw.
