I was looking at an old Whirlpool repair manual, which I found here on the forum. It was dated in the '90s. Under troubleshooting, I found "problem....damaged clothes" solution...low water level, raise the level.
Seems like back when, they realized low water level was a problem. Todays HE machines seem to have low water level as a FEATURE, and both from personal experience and reading on line sources, it seems that damage to clothing is a problem with the new machines.
I guess we have algore to thank for that???
