How not to check a fridge defrost heater

This is why you do not want to touch a cal-rod defrost heater to make sure it is working. :embarassed:

Ouch, same thing can happen when you touch the bottom of a ice maker, guess how I know...


A infrared thermometer works great to do a quick check on them too.

I have an infrared and probes that connect to my multimeter and yet...I did not use them...lesson learned :embarassed:

I once replaced the bake element in my own stove while watching a Saints game and having a few refreshments. I turned it on then went and took a leak. When I got back I looked at the element and it was not red so I touched it. It was white hot. I lost my fingerprint.

Hey rego, your only supposed to touch the elements with one finger. ;D  I've used the same method many times. It's very definitive.

Could be, but I think my IR thermometer is faster then my reflexes, lol

For some reason I think if I touch it just quick enough it won't hurt...what the heck I played hockey as a kid...to many puck's to the head me thinks :D
