Maytag performa burning smell

Just set up a call for tomorrow.  The customer said pump will run fine but when in agitate or spin it will not turn the pulley and smell's burning.  He can turn the pulley by hand and found nothing between the tub.
Any thought's?  Just  a bad belt?

Do you think the pump need's more tension JW?

The pump gets stiff, hard to turn. Their is no adjustment. This washer has 2 belts.

It's not like the old dependable series where the adjustment is with the pump?  Little zoom oil loosen the pump up?

Take new belts and a pump with you.
Remove the pump belt and run the washer in wash and spin mode to make sure there is not a transmission/spin bearing problem.
If it works without the pump belt on,replace the pump and both belts.

Pump good, good on agitate, will not spin.  Spin bearing good...can turn by hand but very tight.  Can't budge tub nut so soaking it in rust buster for night then try again and break apart if need be.  I'm thinking tub bearing...ya think I'm on the right track?

Sounds like the right direction. Remember the nut is a right hand thread and a set screw.

If it's that bad I would have just cut the nut off. Chances are you will need to install a new Mounting Stem Kit anyway if you pull it apart and it includes a new nut.

Yup, tub bearing was a little rusty    atleast I didn't have to break the sleeve off it's not going anywhere.  May have found where the water came from too.

I must have done something wrong.  Just got a call back. 
It's making a squeling noise in transition at agitate and into spin; so I think when I checked the spin bearing I didn't put the cam for the pulley on right and I have brake problem's.
After putting the tub bearing in and new seal/stem it ran great but when I lifted the top in spin it took forever to stop (should have known).  This is a track record for me and really need to correct it.  I have worked on these darn things and have messed up the spacing for the cam before.  I have read the manual again and again...sometime's I get it right but most time's I don't. 1/4"- 3/8" after the brake ingages...just isn't connecting for me.  Anyone have a better way of explaining to me...apparantly my brain is not clicking on this and more than a little embarassed  
I will be going back tomorrow morning to make it right but could use a little help.
