tech chat
« on: April 11, 2008, 12:34:31 AM »
would any of the techs be interested in a chatroom?

i could set one up on an IRC server so we could all chat in real time without having to jump windows constantly, i could make it so you could join with the IRC web based server so no install would be required

maybe a weekly or even nightly thing

lemme know, if enough are interested i'll open up a channel

AJ... i could also expand this to include a channel to offer walk-thrus with users if the techs are willing and have the time

IRC is free to everyone and the web based chat is easy to use even for n00bs

you might consider making the walk-thru bit a donation only option to get the revenues up, i'd do it for free for the frigidaires when i'm bored, so the users might have to stay up late, its the only time i get alone time on the computer  :'(

Some good idea's there BrntToast.

I believe we may have a number of options to use for a chatroom with the software we are running are forums on now.

I will do a little research and see what I can find.

Ok, if you go to our other site at FrigidaireForum.com and log in you will be able to test out the new chat room. It integrates the java PJIRC client fully with our site.

I want to test it out on that site to make sure it works ok before I put in on ApplianceJunk.com

I will try to be in the chat room on and off today if someone would like to give it a try.

Thanks,

Let me clarify...went to frigidaireforum.com and tried to register, just as I did for this forum. Got nowhere.

No member, no chat.

Repair-man,

I see what you mean now. The chat program we were using at FrigidaireForum.com was causing some conflict with the new members registering.

I removed the chat program from the FrigidaireForum.com site for now.
Will just work on getting any bugs worked out for the chat on appliancejunk.com first.

I like the chat software we are using on this site better anyway.

Down the road I may join the two forums user data bases. This way a person could register just one time on either site and use the same log in info for both sites. Would also just have one profile for both site to then.

So much to work on, so little time. :)
