Maytag Centennial does not fill

Maytag top loader washer, water comes on for about a minute then shuts off. If cover is opened & closed then the same thing happens. Water comes on for another minute then stops. If tub is filled manually, then washer completes wash, but the same thing happens during rinse.

Any ideas on what could possibly be wrong ?

sounds like temp. switch , but need model number so we can look it up for you!

Also check the lid switch, part # 8318084
This unit will not fill with the lid open.....

Just an update. Seems that there was a small piece of rubber ( probably from the gasket on the faucet connection) caught in the metal mesh filter on the cold line.

Didn't think that such a small piece of foreign matter could have such a big impact on water flow.
